Occupational Therapy

When people face physical, social, emotional or mental challenges, often the first person who can help them is an occupational therapist. As the name suggests, these are therapists who work with anything and everything that occupies an important place in our lives. They are trained in working with people's bodies (they will have studied physiology and anatomy) and minds (they will be experienced in psychology). An occupational therapist will think about the person's home life and spiritual life, their family and their work, their culture and their physical state, because all of these can affect health and happiness. When working with children, they are particularly helpful with:

  • Understanding and improving how their bodies work
  • Learning to play
  • Learning to pay attention and stay on task
  • Communicating and making friends
  • Handwriting and fine motor skills
  • Self expression and self esteem
